Metals shine as gold and platinum hit new highs
"Metal prices reached new long term highs on Thursday with gold reaching a 25 year high, copper and aluminium also set new records as investor buying aided the gains.
Gold reached $575.75 a troy ounce, its highest level since January 1981, platinum touched a record $1,080 a troy ounce, exceeding the previous peak reached in January 1980. Silver again edged closer to the $10 an ounce level when it reached $9.92, before slipping 10 cents in late morning trade.
Silver last traded above $10 in March 1984."
