# Gold Market Outlook – October 2026

“Gold prices softened during September, but the metal continued to hold at historically elevated levels despite a number of headwinds. Gold prices have come under pressure from higher interest rates and expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise rates further, but the

decline has been relatively contained given the magnitude of the increase in Treasury yields. This resilience is important because it suggests that the factors supporting gold are broader than simply expectations for lower interest rates. Central bank demand, geopolitical uncertainty, concerns over rising government debt and fiscal deficits, and questions about economic stability continue to provide support for gold as a reserve asset and portfolio diversifier.

The metal’s ability to remain above $4,000 even as rates have risen also suggests that these structural sources of demand are increasingly offsetting the traditional negative relationship between gold prices and interest rates. This does not mean that gold has become insensitive to interest rates. The reality is that the relationship between changes in U.S. Treasury interest rates and gold price changes never have been particularly close or high.”
