The Birth and Rise of the Monex Silver Eagle

The initial concept and minting of the Monex Silver Eagle resulted from a joint venture between the Royal Canadian Mint and Monex International in 1982. It was the first time the highly-respected Royal Canadian Mint collaborated with a private company. As a result, the one-ounce Monex branded coin became a successful addition to the company’s offerings. Monex Executive, Michael Carabini, recalls, “The Monex Silver Eagle excelled in the marketplace since there was such incredible growth in awareness of silver as an alternative to gold, yet pure silver coins were widely unavailable for years.”

In addition to the joint venture between the mint and private industry, the original Monex Silver Eagle is historically significant because it was the predecessor of subsequent government-issued bullion coins, like the Canadian Maple Leaf and the U.S. American Eagle coins, also introduced in the 80s.

For centuries, the eagle has represented strength and fortitude.
