Platinum Price Outlook
“Platinum prices moved in a sideway fashion over the course of July. They maintained the sideways trading range that took root in the third week of June. Prices largely moved between $1,590 and $1,675. A broad market rally coupled with a suspension of operations at Impala’s Rustenburg mine in late July helped platinum prices break out of this range at the start of August.
The sustainability of this jump in platinum prices early in August will depend mostly on the broader strength of the precious metals markets. The broader precious metals markets are expected to move in a sideways fashion over the next few weeks with the potential for some downside risk before prices begin to rise in a more sustained fashion during the last quarter. Platinum prices could move in a sideways fashion between $1,600 and 1,825 in the near future. Sharp gains in gold and silver prices or any disruption to mine supply could push prices higher toward $1,960.”
